Anderton Boat Lift  

The Anderton Boat Lift has a range of adult and child friendly events throughout the year, making it one of the perfect places to visit in Northwich. Originally designed to lift boats and barges 50 ft from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey canal, the Anderton Boat lift is a fantastic historical structure on the canal system.  The Canal River Trust website has information and maps to help you plan your route if you decide to cycle or walk, the Nature park is close by, so you can choose to go for a long walk to observe the wildlife and wood sculptures. And to top off  the perfect family day out in Northwich, you must enjoy a boat ride along the river.

Lion Salt Works

The Lion Salt Works is a wonderful piece of heritage residing in Northwich and is now one of the last open pan salt making sites in the UK. The Salt Works closed in 1986 and after a recent National Lottery funded restoration, opened in 2015 as a visitor and museum attraction, perfect for a historical family day out in Northwich. Explore the newly restored site and enjoy a family learning experience by discovering the history of how the Salt Works operated with various interactive exhibits and walkthrough buildings.

Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse

The Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse, formerly known as the ‘Salt Museum’ houses; social, industry and cultural history from West Cheshire. Full of displays and tales, stories are told through a variety of formats including; models, reconstructions and artefacts which all relate to the buildings former history, local industry, archeology, market towns and transport.  With many events running throughout the year, it is worth visiting the museum in Northwich with the family for a fun educational day.
