Barons Quay and Grozone team up to transform Barons Quay as part of Northwich in Bloom.
Barons Quay have teamed up with Grozone as part of the Northwich in Bloom initiative to prepare for the North-West in Bloom competition.
The planting will take place at River Park and the community are invited to come along between 11am-2pm on Friday 29th June 2018, to watch as Barons Quay is adorned with beautiful wild flowers. Children from Victoria Road School will take part by helping to plant a mix of common poppy, cornflower, corn cockle and corn marigold.
Cheshire West have also purchased a number of planters supplied by Northwich Town Council to bring extra colour to the main retail area and complement the existing live green wall which will also be included in the Northwich in Bloom competition.
Volunteer and Training Co-ordinator at Grozone, Pete Attwood, commented:
“Grozone volunteers and staff are delighted to have the chance to work with Barons Quay on preparing the River Garden for Northwich in Bloom.
“We have been tending the plants at Grozone since they were sown as part of a week of community activities at Baron’s Quay during the Easter Holidays and they are coming into bloom now and should be looking their best over the next couple of months.
“The River Garden is a lovely space and will be a superb community resource as it continues to develop.”
This partnership is all part of a bigger initiative which aims to see Northwich transformed. Barons Quay has joined forces with various community organisations, including the Northwich Business Improvement District (BID), Northwich Town Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Northwich Rotary Club, Grozone Community Garden, local schools and the Drastic on Plastic initiative to create planting, activities and community engagement throughout July and August.
Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “This is a wonderful example of how communities coming together can make a real difference to their town.
“The Council is delighted to be supporting the Northwich in Bloom initiative and I would encourage everyone to visit the town centre over the coming weeks to see first-hand the town brought to life in a spectacle of colour.”
